How ParkAid works for drivers and hosts — booking, the 14% host fee, cancellations, safety, and insurance, in plain language.
For drivers
What is ParkAid?+
ParkAid is a parking marketplace built in Edmonton: local people with a spare driveway, garage, condo stall, or lot space offer it for rent, and drivers book it instead of circling for street parking or paying downtown parkade rates. Our motto is “Parking made easy” — a spot near where you're headed, reserved and waiting for you.
Is ParkAid open yet?+
Not quite — we're coming soon. Edmonton hosts are joining now, and the spots you see on this site are samples so you can see exactly how ParkAid will work. We're not announcing a launch date yet; hosts can get ready here and drivers can browse the sample spots to see what's coming.
How will booking work when ParkAid opens?+
Search near your destination, pick a spot, choose your date and start/end times, and send a booking request. The host confirms it, you pay securely through ParkAid, and the spot is yours for the booked window. You'll always pay the cheaper of the hourly total or the spot's daily rate. Need to change plans? You can cancel from My Bookings, subject to the cancellation rules below.
How do I get into the spot?+
Every listing explains how drivers get in before you book — open access, an access code, a fob or key handoff the host arranges, or the host meets you there. The private details (like a gate code) are shared only once your booking is confirmed, so spots stay secure. ParkAid doesn't have in-app chat yet — confirmed booking details carry what you need.
What if I need to cancel?+
Life happens. While a booking is still pending (the host hasn't confirmed it), cancelling is free and fully refunded. Once confirmed: cancel 24 hours or more before your start time for a full refund; cancel 4 to 24 hours before for a 50% refund; under 4 hours, after the start time, or a no-show, there's no refund. If the host cancels — or the spot isn't available or as described when you arrive — you get a full refund. Refunds go back to your original payment method, usually within 5–10 business days.
Is my car covered if something happens to it?+
ParkAid is a marketplace that connects drivers and hosts — we don't operate the parking spots, and parking is at your own risk. Damage to or theft of your vehicle is covered (if at all) under your own auto insurance, the same as parking anywhere else, so keep your coverage current. Hosts verify their spots are theirs to offer, and both sides review each other after every booking. The full details are in our Terms & Conditions.
Where will ParkAid work?+
Edmonton first — game nights at Rogers Place, hospital visits, campus days, Whyte Ave nights, airport trips — before expanding further. The idea stays the same everywhere: skip the circling and the dark, dingy parkade for a private spot that's reserved and waiting.
For hosts
What does it cost to be a host?+
Listing your spot is free. When a booking happens, ParkAid keeps a 14% service fee and you keep 86% of your price — no other ParkAid charges, and you set the price yourself. Try the earnings estimator on the hosts page to see what a spot like yours could make.
Do I have to accept every booking?+
No. Every booking starts as a request, and nothing is final until you confirm it. You control your spot's availability, its price, and who parks there.
What kinds of spots can I list?+
Driveways, garages, underground condo stalls, above-ground parkade stalls, and private lot spaces — anywhere a car can legally park. You must own the spot or have clear permission to rent it out (for condo stalls, that includes your condo board's rules), and it has to be as you describe it.
How do drivers get in — and who sees my access details?+
You choose how access works when you list: open access, an access code, a fob or key handoff you arrange, or meeting the driver. Private details like codes are shared only after you've confirmed a booking — never publicly on your listing.
What about insurance?+
Two things every host should know. First, tell your own home or condo insurer that you're renting out your parking spot — hosts are responsible for having insurance appropriate for renting it out, and for following their policy and any condo or lease rules. Second, ParkAid doesn't insure parked vehicles: if a driver's car is damaged, that sits with the driver's own auto policy. The full picture is in the Terms (§3.5 and §4.3), and we recommend a quick chat with your insurer before your first booking.
How and when do I get paid?+
Payments run through Stripe, our payment processor. When ParkAid opens, you'll connect a Stripe account to receive payouts of your earnings (your price minus the 14% service fee) — no chasing e-transfers, no cash at the curb.
What if a driver overstays or there's a problem?+
Drivers book a specific window and agree to leave by the end of it. If something goes wrong, contact us at support@parkaidparking.ca and we'll help sort it out under the Terms. Reviews after every booking keep both sides honest.
